As you've seen, I love sequins, tutus and bright colors just as much as the next girl...but sometimes simple is better. Navy scarf, army green tank, jeans and air-dried hair thrown up on top of my head all combine for a low-maintenance (and budget) look.

Just another work outfit because that seems like all I do lately...although I did manage to try out a bunch of new East Village restaurants last weekend, all of which I would recommend: L'Apico and Calliope (amazing, just go) for brunch and Acme for dinner. This whole 'work' thing is going to come to a screeching halt tomorrow at this time...when I will be on the beach vegging out for the remainder of the week. Serenity now.

It's not very often that I post the same article of clothing two weeks back to back but it's pretty representative of how much I've worn these boyfriend jeans since I've got them. Paired them last weekend with this black lace/peplum top for a casual night out. Speaking of weekend, I could not be happier that it's here. What a week. Hope you all have a great one! xo.

I bought these heels at the beginning of the Zara summer sale for $80. Thirty days later, I had yet to wear them...still wasn't exactly sold on the sticker price. I went back to Zara asked the cashier what the price had come down to: $39.99. Shamelessly I proposed returning and then buying them right back. Her manager, within ear shot, quickly turned this proposition down. Cashier girl continued to return my other items and I started laying on the charm. Manager broad walked away and my new friend slash cashier says: "you want the shoes, right?" I was like yeaaaahh but not for $80 (head hanging low). No further words were exchanged and next thing I know, the shoes were returned for $80, rung up for $40...and I was out the door. They paired nicely with my first pair of boyfriend jeans, that I'm equally obsessed with, and a sheer black top this weekend, when I learned that they glow in the dark with the assistance of black lights. What a steal.

It's that time of year when I want to dress for Spring but have to layer jackets like this one, chunky knit scarves (men's like this one give you more to work with) and booties for when mother nature throws us 50° curve balls like the last couple days. This proved to be the perfect combo for a group birthday dinner at Sala One Nine this weekend. These jeans might be the softest pair of pants I've ever owned. I may or may not have fallen asleep in them later that night.

Back to the Basics

From Fridays at work to Saturday shopping trips or Sunday family dinners...you can really never go wrong with a classic white button up and nice denim. These J. Brand jeans, hands down the most flattering and therefore my favorite pair, are on mega sale...like so many other things I paid full price for last year [i,e.these booties, these wedges, this vest, these pants, among others I'm sure). But I'm not bitter or anything. 

I got the blues...

I received these jeans from ShopBop last week and they quickly became my all-time-favorite shortly after putting them on...so comfortable and flattering. I then wore this outfit for Sunday brunch but little did I know it would represent what my hair would like like 24 hours later.

After going to yet another NYC salon for color last night, my highlights resemble this very outfit with the highlights matching my denim shirt and lowlights, my new favorite jeans. This isn't the first time I've ended up with blue hair in NYC. Little did I know, however, that Salon Novella in the East Village is a 'sister' salon to Ibiza Salon in Union Square...which left me looking like Katy Perry 11 short months ago. The lighting in Novella was such that I couldn't quite tell but I popped into my gym a couple blocks away (for the first time in months) to ask some girls in the locker room if I was crazy or if it was really blue. To which the first girl replied "Yeah! [really enthusiastic and positive] Is it part of your costume?!" The grumbling response under my breath was not nearly as positive. Another innocent bystander confirmed Miss Positive's claim: yes! it turned blue [like the Coors Light commercial].

I then marched my Marge-Simpson-mop back to Novella where AnnMarie pretended she didn't see it until I started to get forceful. She said it was 'cool'...it wasn't blue. And then I lost my "cool." She proceeded to re-highlight some of the blue to a nice pumpkin orange. At this point I break out in tears like a lunatic and she assures me it will 'wash out in a week.' And this is the point where I burst into a 'Tootie fit' (for those of you that know my late Grandma), collect my refund and head to the nearest deli to purchase a pint of Ben & Jerry's Chunky Monkey. The Chunky eased the pain until it was gone.  And then I went back to hating my new do and myself for eating a pint of Chunky Monkey. I guess I now understand why everyone in New York is brunette. Needless to say, any NYC salon recommendations are greatly appreciated at this [desperate] point.
