Weekend Update - 6/13/2011

{vase full of fragrant white roses}
Hope you all had a good weekend. Friday night we stayed out much to late with the bf's friend in town from L.A. This being noteworthy because his friend is Lo Bosworth and I was in hog heaven pretending I was a semi-shlebrity. The rain Saturday put a damper on a plans to attend the Belmont Stakes...therefore the day was consumed with lot of lounging around, ordering in and watching movies at the boy's house, where I snapped these iPhonographs. Have a good week!

Copy Cat - My Apartment

Urban Outfitters Flounce Ruffle Strip Curtain
Home Depot Aged Iron Chandelier
Sherwin Williams Wallpaper
West Elm Pintuck Duvet Cover
Not to completely rip off my friend Audrey's post yesterday but to completely rip off my friend Audrey's post [don't feel too bad considering I didn't get home from work until midnight], here are a couple shots she took of my apartment over her Memorial Day visit. With floor space sparse, clearly the main focus here is getting as much hanging on the walls as possible. I even velcroed the t.v. remote on the wall next to my bed (don't worry, it's hidden). Every square inch counts.

Design DIY - How Bazaar

Materials:
- 8 x 10 Picture Frames: The pictured are from Bed, Bath & Beyond (4 for $20) but Kmart has cheaper (~$3/piece).
- Old magazine covers: I picked up this magazine at a Borders going out of business sale for $1.
- Hammer: If you can't find a heavy duty floral one like below, you'll be fine with a normal one.
- Nails: No comment.

I tried to pick out covers that went with the overall color scheme of my apartment, ones where the date had some sort significance or simply those that I liked. Rip them out of the magazine, being careful not to tear. You will have to fold a tiny bit on the top or bottom edges to fit in the frames but I didn't lose anything significant by doing so. Next space the framed covers an inch or inch and a half apart into whatever size matrix you like on your wall. For a grand total of $41 (actually about $45 with tax) and less than an hour of my time, this little DIY project really brightens up my shoebox apartment.

Polo Prepster

Hat - Ralph Lauren
Dress and flower headband - Urban Outfitters
Purse and wedges - Zara
Ring - Forever 21
Nails - Essie's 'French Affair'

{Sunglasses and straw bag - H&M, yellow sweater - Anthropologie, flats - random store in Chinatown}
After yesterday's post, I bet you can't guess where I wore this. Ok, I'll give you a hint: starts with 'p' and ends with 'olo match.' This easy breezy crisp white dress, another Urban sale item from last season like this one, fit the bill quite nicely for the event. I saw these wedges a couple months ago and passed because my Zara wedge fetish was spinning out of control.  After they went out of stock, I thought about them daily. Just for the heck of it, I popped my head in a nearby store while running errands Saturday and did not leave empty handed.

Score!

Weekend Update - 6/6/2011

A rather eventful weekend was consumed with a couple co-workers' going away party Friday, shopping and engagement party Saturday and, last but not least, the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic Sunday -- perhaps my favorite NYC event to date after Fashion Week, of course. Here is a round-up of some of yesterday's looks which included lots of soft neutrals, bright pops of color and always-creative handmade headdresses. Hope you all had a great weekend!

Nude and Blushing

Dress, earrings - Urban Outfitters
Clutch, bracelets - H&M
Nude heels - Aldo
Necklace - Anthropologie
Gold watch - vintage

I borrowed this dress from my friend for dinner at Cafe Gitane on Sunday and wish more than anything that it was mine. Such a flattering cut with the deep-v back.  If only I would have scooped it up last year. I will continue to watch online and pester my favorite cashier at the Urban Outfitters around the corner from my house until it returns. Have a great weekend!

Savage Beauty

I made a trip up to the MET on Monday for some reprieve from the heat to check out the Alexander McQueen exhibit. The show is divided into six themes ranging from bumpster pants to beautifully cut smoking jackets, very dark Victorian Gothic dresses and the mesmerizing use of materials and forms from nature like the rose dress below...all showcasing the tailoring skills he acquired as a youth in Saville Row and then perfected at Givenchy. For those of you that can't make it to the MET, here is a peek inside but the pictures hardy do each piece justice. I highly recommend seeing first hand if possible to fully understand the mesmerizing craftmanship performed on each of McQueen's works of art. Truly fascinating.

Walk around the Winery

Dress, sandals - Forever 21
Sunglasses, belt, flower pin, bag, bracelets - H&M
Nails - Essie's 'Mint Candy Apple'

As pictured in yesterday's Weekend Update post and a couple months back in Miami [figured I could post again given my rouge skin in March's post makes for a completely different look], this floral maxi treated me well on an overcast Saturday in the Hamptons. I am hopeful that the Memorial Day reminiscing will soon stop, allowing me to actually focus at work today....but not placing any bets.

Memorial Day Weekend Update

An amazing Memorial Day weekend was spent with the best group of girlfriends ever in the Hamptons, with a long trip to Channing Daughters winery, dinner at South Edison and drinks at Surf Lodge before heading back into the City for a couple yummy brunches, tasty dinners and finally a trip to the MET for the Alexander McQueen exhibit. It doesn't get much better. And sadly now back to reality with a much less lovely work week. Hope you all had a great weekend!
